Cut, carat, color and clarity are the four most popular factors used to measure diamond quality.

While the characteristics of color, clarity and carat are dictated by nature, cut is directly influenced by humans. Although the 4C's provide scientific guidelines for evaluating the diamond's quality, which affects its value, they do not necessarily measure the diamond's beauty, and certainly not the personal significance attached to the most precious gift you could ask for.
