Pink diamonds are a rare type of fancy diamonds which are found in relatively small numbers each year. The rarity and scarcity of pink diamonds makes their price significantly higher than white diamonds and other fancy colored diamonds.
Natural fancy pink diamonds come in all shapes of cuts, including princess, emerald, asscher, oval, marquise, pear, radiant, heart and cushion, though round natural fancy pink diamonds are the most common.
Pink diamonds have made their way into public attention recently, following the much-discussed release of "Blood Diamond", a Hollywood film featuring Leonardo DiCaprio as a South African mercenary who finds a rare pink diamond of great value. The film surfaced the subject of Conflict Diamonds or Blood Diamonds, which was in the center of vast Diamond Industry activities (see our article about blood diamonds and the Kimberley Process here).
