Legends Never Die

Elizabeth Taylor may not have “talked the talk” on the silver screen in the seminal movie Diamonds are a Girl’s Best Friend; however she definitely “walked the walk” in living up to the movie title.

Her untimely passing in March of this year was met by universal grieving.  And although her physical presence may no longer be with us, she left us many eternal remnants; not the least of which was her extensive jewelry collection, dominated by diamond encrusted heirlooms.

the right to auction the jewelry from Taylor’s estate. A series of auctions slated for this spring are expected to raise in the vicinity of USD150 million. The provenance of the jewelry coupled with the quality of the pieces that include the 33-carat Krupp diamond and the heart-shaped Taj Mahal diamond should ensure unprecedented interest in the auctions.

All forms of life have a limited lifespan and we often hear morality stories about the supposed vice of acquiring “baubles.” Could it be the case though, that we are capable of imbuing intangible elements to our belongings even when we are no longer in possession of them? In the case of Elizabeth Taylor, I believe this to be the case. Later this year, a few lucky people will have the once in a lifetime opportunity to make Elizabeth Taylor an eternal part of their lives.
